On Thursday, 5th February, 2026, the representative of Gesunde Afrika (Germany), in collaboration with staff of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) and the Community Information and Advocacy Initiative (CIAI), paid an advocacy and courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Umar Farouq Umar, the Emir of Daura, at his palace in Daura, Katsina State.

The purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the delegation and to seek the Emir’s royal support, blessings, and cooperation towards the successful implementation of an ongoing intervention programme titled Food Security and Malaria Prevention Project, which is currently being implemented across selected Local Government Areas in Katsina State.

During the meeting, the delegation explained that the project is designed to reach and support 400 households, with particular focus on women and children, who are among the most vulnerable groups affected by hunger, malnutrition, and malaria-related health challenges. The programme is being implemented across four (4) target areas, namely:
Daura/Mashi
Sandamu
Mani
Rimi

The delegation further highlighted that the project adopts improved, innovative, and sustainable agricultural practices aimed at increasing food production and improving household nutrition. In addition, the programme integrates malaria prevention strategies, including community sensitization and promotion of best health practices, to reduce malaria prevalence and its impact on families.

The initiative seeks to improve long-term food and nutrition security, enhance health outcomes, and strengthen community resilience by addressing the major root causes of hunger and preventable diseases. The project is also expected to promote sustainable food systems, encourage healthy living, and improve productivity among the target beneficiaries, thereby contributing to the overall development of the communities.

In his response, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Daura, expressed gratitude and appreciation to the visiting team for the courtesy visit and for selecting Katsina State, particularly Daura Emirate, as part of the intervention areas.

He acknowledged the importance of the programme in improving livelihoods, supporting vulnerable households, and reducing malaria burden in the society.

The Emir assured the delegation of his maximum support and cooperation, and he encouraged community leaders and beneficiaries to fully participate in the programme to ensure its success and sustainability.
